Computer Networking is a vast branch consisting of several computer hardware that is responsible for making an interconnected web of multiple devices together. A computer network is essentially a group of computers that are linked together via Computer Networking devices like routers or switches to provide a common platform for easy communication and resource sharing. Some of the common computer network devices are: Router A device known as the router is used to analyze the contents of data packets that are transmitted within a system or are sent to a different network. Routers determine whether the origin and destination both exactly lie on the same network or if the information is being transferred from one network type to another, which necessitates encapsulating the information packet with a routing header protocol to secure data to your new network type. Switch Switches connect computers to one another, much like a heart interlinks all different parts of the body. The only way a switch differs from a heart is in how it manages packets of information. When a switch receives a packet of information, it decides what device or computer the package is designed to get to and sends it to this computer only. It doesn't broadcast the packet to all computers all at once as a heart does. This selective transfer of data to a single designated computer means that the bandwidth isn't shared with anyone else and it ensures that the data leaves the system with a lot more efficiency. Because of this alone, switches are often preferred over a hub.




Hub Considering networks, a hub is the most primary network component that is used to link computers to other devices in that network. Contrary to a network router or switch, a community hub doesn't have routing tables or any sort of prior knowledge on where to send data. It simply broadcasts all system information across each link. There are mainly three hubs that are commonly used. These are Active hub, passive hub and intelligent hub.

  1. Active Hub: An active hub is mostly used in ethernet communications providing the technology that simply stores data and forwards it.

  2. Passive Hub: Passive hubs, contrary to active hubs, are not known to increase network performance. They are also not effective in the process of troubleshooting networking problems, which is a thumbs down as troubleshooting problems has become an essential part of networking recently.

  3. 3. Intelligent hub: Intelligent hub is another sort of hub that is increasingly being used. The intelligent hub is a sophisticated version of the hub which has the very best of both passive and active hubs. It comes with the capability to handle the entire system from one central site. Repeater The repeater is a device which is used to regenerate or recreate the links that are weakened to allow the link to cover more distance. The bridge forwards information packets without assessing and re-routing messages.
